A Case of Infantile Septicemia for which Sucessfully Treated with Fosfomycin Sodium



Abstract
Septicemia refer to the presence of bacteria in the blood and implies that blood cultures are positive and that the patient appears seriously or critically ill.
When septicemia is suspected serial blood cultures should be obtained and appropriate antibiotics therapy should be initiated promptly.
A 9 month old female infant who has been critically ill due to gram positive coccus septicemia and non-responsive to various antibiotics administration, such as Ampicillin, Trimethoprim-Sulfamethoxazole, Cefamezin and Amikacin.
On the 11th day, Fosfomycin Sodium was administered to this seriously ill infant and striking clinical and laboratory improvement was achieved by this medication.
So we report this case with literature review.
